From the armor items they use, Vikings were popular because of the armor helmet. Viking helmets, one medieval shield, were generally used to provide protection to the head during the extreme fight. Warriors should always keep in mind that head protection is extremely important and must be given much attention than any other body parts. Therefore, helmets should be made from high quality products with strong, tough and sturdy materials. It should be able to last for many years to reap its benefits.
Does a Viking helmet have horns on it? Most probably, they do not have. Well, at least when they were in a battle. Of course, if they let horns to be on their helmets, it could only bring about negative effects in the battle. Like for instance, the enemy may easily grab it and have you thrown around in an instant. Generally, Viking horned helmets are worn during special events and religious festivals.
Most likely than not, the main reason behind the myths of Viking warriors in wearing helmets with horns is because they will definitely look a whole lot more terrible when they have it on. Viking warriors are intimidating by themselves already and adding this will make them look fearless.
